Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! !!!!!FOUND BY THE USPS & DELIVERED, 6 1/2 WEEKS LATER!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale four barrel pepperbox derringer made by an unknown maker. 2 7/8″ long overall with a 1 1/2″ barrel group. This is a miniature of a Spanish copy of a Sharps type 4 barrel derringer. Although at first glance it looks like a typical Sharps 4 barrel derringer, there are three things are unusual about this miniature compared to Sharps derringers I have ever seen. First is the frame is steel & finished in the white while Sharps four barrel derringers have brass frames. Second is the barrel “tilts up” to load instead of sliding forward. There is a checkered button on the left side of the frame that when pushed forward, allows the rear of the barrel to tilt up for loading. The hammer has both half & full cock, & the hammer must be brought to half cock before opening the barrel to prevent damage to the firing pin! Third, there are no markings. In all other respects, fit, finish, quality, checkering, rotating firing pin, & style of workmanship, it looks like a Tom Weston. Brass bead front sight. Blued steel barrel group, hammer, & trigger. Checkered hammer spur & barrel release. Two piece rosewood grips. The bottom of the grip with a bail type lanyard loop finished in the white. Sharps four barrel pepperboxes are unusual as instead of having a rotating barrel group, they have a rotating firing pin. Fully functional, including the rotating firing pin, and will shoot the 2mm rimfire cartridges with the thick rim. Includes a walnut hinged top case with flip latch. The interior French fit and lined in orange cloth. The bottom of the case is lined with a thin sheet of cork. The case top with a rectangular brass plaque held in place by two small brass nails which is pantograph wrongly engraved “SHARPS 4-BARREL DERRINGER, BY WESTON”, in two lines. Excellent near mint condition. A very interesting & unusual miniature Sharps, & worthy of some research! Stock # PR-6. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
