Project Description

!!!!!SOLD!!!!!  This is a beautiful J. Stevens “Gould” single shot target pistol by an unknown maker.  Though it is not signed, it sure reminds me of Ron DeWalt’s work.  4 1/2″ long overall with a 3″ part octagon part round rifled barrel of .115 caliber.  Fully functional.  Blued steel finish except for the grip screws & escutcheons which are nickel.  The left side of the barrel below the rear sight marked “J. STEVENS A & T CO, CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS.”.  Dovetailed globe target front sight & dovetailed elevation adjustable rear sight.  Finely checkered hammer spur, the hammer with both half & full cock.  The barrel release button on the left side is finely serrated on the outer edge.  Brass frame, triggerguard, and buttcap.  The frame & grip cap high relief deep chisel background engraved with a spread winged American eagle on the left side of the frame.  Two piece walnut grips with a single retaining screw on each side.  The grips expertly & very finely checkered.  Complete with the original hinged top walnut case with rotating latch.  The interior French fit & lined in a red felt.  The interior lid with a brass plaque elaborately engraved “J. STEVENS ARMS & TOOL COMPANY”.  The interior bottom with a brass plaque drilled for five cartridges which look to be live rounds, but may be dummies.  You did notice that this has a rifled bore, right?  The plaque is engraved “GOULD MODEL, -1/2 SCALE-“.  The cartridges are .388″ long, .126 in case diameter, .142 rim diameter.  The case is .266” long, brass with a copper primer & lead bullet.  The case exterior lid has an unmarked inlaid rectangular brass plaque.  The case bottom has a small rounded brass foot at each corner.  A really beautiful little pistol.  To have this type engraving done today would probably cost more than I’m asking for the pistol.  Stock # BK-43.  !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
