Project Description

!!!!!SOLD!!!!!  This is a 1/2 scale, possibly antique, very ornate gold, silver, & ebony powder flask by an unknown maker.  This type flask would have probably accompanied a late 16th century to mid 17th century matchlock or wheellock firearm of some kind.  3″ tall including the spout.  The body itself measures 1 7/8 tall X 1 3/4″ wide X 3/4″ thick.  The body of the flask is ebony with ornate engraved & sculpted silver overlays on both sides, the edges, & top.  One side has a gold dog or wolf head at the top, a gold bust of a nude woman, probably patterned after Michelangelo’s Venus De Milo, in the middle, and two gold rosettes near the bottom.  The other side has a reclining lion near the top, a male lion’s head in the middle, and two gold rosettes near the bottom.  Both edges have a silver hanger near the top, and a silver band with a fleur de leis near the bottom.  The spout with spring loaded opener is brass, 1 1/8″ long & 5/16″ in diameter.  Beautiful workmanship and a work of art in & of itself.  Complete with a more modern mahogany hinged top case, the interior French fit & lined in an olive green felt.  Stock # MC-97.  !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
