Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/3 scale swivel barrel Kentucky flintlock double rifle by an unknown maker. 18 11/16″ long overall with a 13″ barrel group. The barrels are rifled and .22 caliber. Browned steel barrels, lock assembly, pans, frizzens & dovetailed rear sights. Yellow brass furniture and dovetailed front sights. Beautiful tiger striped maple two piece stock. Hickory ramrod on one side between the barrels. The buttstock with a raised cheekpiece on the left side along with some decorative carving . There is also a brass oval decorated with stars with a German silver star in the middle inlaid into the left side of the stock. The top of the stock carved in a shell pattern just behine the rear tang and with a German silver oval inlaid into the top of the wrist. The left side of the buttstock with an engraved brass patchbox that is spring loaded and released by a small button on the rear of the buttplate. The brass triggerguard is spring loaded, and is the latch for the barrel lock notches. Squeezing the triggerguard upwards toward the trigger releases the lock so the barrels can be turned. Very interesting how the lockplate and backing plate dovetail into the breech at the front. The barrels are drilled through to the touch holes. The brass has mellowed with age to a beautiful patina. 98% of the original brown finish remains on the steel parts, showing wear only on the sharp edges. The hammer does not cock & hold. Upon inspection of the lock internals, it looks to need a little fine tuning and maybe a new sear spring. This is a very well made & beautiful little rifle with a very interesting mechanism! It is just a shame that the maker did not sign it. It just needs a little TLC by someone who knows how to work on these type locks. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
