Project Description

!!!!!SOLD!!!!!  This is a 1/3 scale Colt 1860 Army percussion revolver by an unknown maker.  4 9/16″ long overall with a 2 5/8″ round barrel of .147 caliber.  The barrel is bored through to the cylinder, but is not rifled, making me think this is a US made miniature as the British & European makers usually do not bore their barrels through.  I initially thought this might be made by David Kucer, it is equal to his work, but I have never seen a Kucer miniature that was not marked so.  Steel construction except for the brass triggerguard & front sight.  Nicely figured walnut grip.  No markings except the hand engraved naval battle cylinder scene.  Blued finish except for the case hardened frame, hammer, & loading lever assembly.  The pistol is fully functional, the hammer with both half & full cock.  Checkered hammer spur & loading lever latch.  Complete with the original mahogany hinged top case with key lock, but no key is included.  The case interior English fit & lined in a green felt.  The interior lid with the black on white Colt loading instructions label.  There is a lidded compartment at the right rear of the interior with a brass knob that contains one conical lead bullet.   Accessories include a nice powder flask with copper body, brass top, & blued steel spring; a brass bullet mold with blued steel sprue cutter casting both a round & a conical ball; a blue steel “L” shaped combination nipple wrench screwdriver; a turned aluminum lift top cap tin with black on white Eley Bros label, and a functional brass oiler.  The revolver shows about 40% original blue finish, the loss being almost exclusively on the barrel & loading lever which have turned a nice patina gray brown with no pitting.  The cylinder, backstrap, & screws showing 98% original bright blue.  The case hardened parts showing about 50% original finish, the balance turning silver.  The brass triggerguard & front sight showing a nice mellow aged patina suggesting this piece has some age on it.  The highly figured walnut grip is near perfect with a tight grain & a gloss finish.  The accessories are also near mint.  The shows some scratches & other signs of handling, & the brass escutcheon is missing from the key hole.  This is a beautifully made piece, extremely well executed in both quality of workmanship, attention to detail, and accuracy to the original.  It saddens me that a piece of art this nice is not signed by the maker so I can give him the credit he deserves.  !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
