Beautiful checkered highly figured walnut buttstock and forearm with high gloss varnished finish. The checkering done by master stock maker and checkerer James Corpe. Gold plated brass receiver, sideplates, buttplate and cleaning rod trapdoor. High polish blue steel barrel, magazine, and barrel bands, and beautifully case colored lever, hammer, and trigger with outstanding colors by Doug Turnbull of New York. The carbine buttplate with the sliding trapdoor for a cleaning rod (cleaning rod not included). Carbine flip rear sight. The hammer spur finely checkered. Beautiful craftsmanship and typical high Uberti quality. Very early serial number 15 stamped into the lower tang to the rear of the lever lock. The top of the barrel marked “A. UBERTI FECIT” Straight grip stock, full magazine, carbine buttplate. The frame, both sideplates, the cartridge lifter, and the buttplate are all profusely and expertly engraved with about 90% coverage. The left sideplate engraved with a very detailed round panel scene of a spread winged eagle with cactus and snake, the balance of the left side of the sideplate and the frame pretty much 100% engraved in a very intricate scroll & border engraving. The right sideplate with a very detailed round panel presentation and hand engraved “A, Brown, from, O. Winchester, January, 3, 1869”, in 6 lines, and again the balance of the sideplate and the frame pretty much 100% engraved in a very intricate scroll & border engraving. The top and bottom of the frame, both tangs, and the cartridge lifter pretty much fully engraved. The buttplate with engraving at the top and bottom on either side of the trapdoor, and also on the top tang. The metal is near perfect. The wood does show some minor handling marks, with a minor ding in the middle top of the left side of the buttstock. I actually watched Carlo engrave this piece years ago when he visited IMA. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
