Project Description

!!!!!SOLD!!!!!  This is a miniature breech loading salute cannon marked on the shield “U S, WATERVLIET ARSENAL”  in two lines.  The rear of the breech block marked “PAT’D AUG 1905.  6″ tall mounted on the tapered round walnut base.  The barrel measures 4 3/4″ long including the breech block, 5/8″ in diameter at the breech, & 3/8” at the removable knurled muzzle piece.  The breech has an interrupted screw thread.  The rear knob or cascabel retracts & cocks into place, & is fired or released by pushing the small button on the side.  The barrel & breech block looks to be German silver, non magnetic.   The balance of the metal parts look to be tin plated steel as they are all magnetic.  I am sure this piece was meant to fire some kind of blank cartridge, & it looks to have been fired, but I have no idea what that cartridge may be.  A really interesting piece!  Good condition, the shield showing some loss of the tin plating, & those areas are a brown patina.  !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
