Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale Ethan Allen bar hammer double action single shot derringer that I believe was made by Tom P. Weston in Mexico City in the late 1940’s to mid 1960’s. Everything about it makes me think it is a Weston, though like most Weston’s, it is unmarked. 3 1/8″ long overall with a 1 3/16″ part round – part octagon rifled barrel of about .215 caliber. At the transition on the barrel between round and octagon there is a raised knurled ring, and there is another raised ring at the muzzle. Beautiful bright fire blue finished steel parts with the exception of the trigger which is case hardened. Two piece walnut grips with yellow brass escutcheons and a single screw entering from the left side. When the trigger is pulled, the hammer lifts and falls. The trigger remains in the rearward fired position until the hammer is lifted to replace the percussion cap, at which point the trigger resets to the forward position. I had concerns about the way the action works & sent it to Larry Smith for possible repairs, but Larry said it was made this way. Complete with a non-original hinged top wood casing. The sides and bottom painted black with some gold leaf border detail. The top looks to be celluloid, and depicts a coat of arms with lions, a crown, vines, etc. The casing interior French fit and lined in a red felt. Near mint condition showing only very minor signs of handling. The sideplate screw on the left side has a slightly buggered slot. It’s possible this could have been made by Fred Thacker’s shop as he and Weston used some of the same craftsmen. It’s also possible I am totally wrong & it is by some unknown maker. Whoever made it, it is a beautiful, unusual, & very well made piece! !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
