Project Description

This is a 1/3 scale Colt 1849 Pocket Model made by the legendary Tom P. Weston of Mexico city, Mexico some time around the mid 1940’s to the early 1960’s.  According to Art Brown’s book, Miniature Guns of Mexico, there reportedly were less than 10 made.  Art features serial # 6 in his book on pages 127 – 129.  This is the first one I have ever encountered and been able to offer for sale.  3 5/16″ long overall with a 2 21/32″ octagon barrel of .101 caliber.  Fully functional and capable of firing given the correct miniature percussion caps, powder load, and projectiles.  Machined steel construction with a blue finish.  One piece dark walnut grip with a varnish finish.  The hammer has both half & full cock, & the hammer spur is checkered.  The top of the barrel hand engraved “ADDRESS SAML COLT, – -, NEW YORK CITY”, in three lines.  The side of the cylinder hand engraved  “COLT’S PATENT, No 5” in two lines, both lines inside an engraved rectangular box.  The left front of the frame hand engraved “COLT’S PATENT”.  The bottom of the barrel, triggerguard, and backstrap all engraved with the number “5”.  Complete with the original Weston hinged top mahogany casing with push button latch.  The case interior English fit and lined in red kid goat leather.  The bottom of the case with a dust ledge.  Accessories include a brass powder flask, a two leg blue steel bullet mold with sprue cutter that cast both a round and a conical ball.  The right leg hand engraved hear the pivot pin “36 PKT”.  The sprue cutter hand engraved “COLT’S PATENT”.  A brass lift top cap tin with green Eley Bros label which contains 12 round lead projectiles, an “L” shaped combination tool that is a nipple wrench & screwdriver, and a pill capsule containing a nice quantity of conical lead projectiles.  The entire set in in near mint condition, showing just a some very minor sighns of handling and little dulling of the finish on the backstrap & triggerguard.  I’d call it 97%.  The brass flask has a couple small dark discolored spots, but they are not active corrosion, just natural patina.  The cap tin, mold, and tool are mint.  An extremely rare & desirable Tom Weston miniature, and a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire one!!!  Stock # WM-02.  Price:  $6,250.00.
