Project Description
This is a 1/2 scale Sharps four barrel pepperbox derringer made by Tom P. Weston in Mexico City, Mexico, circa 8/30/1968. 2 3/4″ long overall with a 1 1/2″ barrel group. Brass frame & front bead sight. Blued steel barrel, hammer, trigger, & screws. Checkered hammer spur, the hammer with both half & full cock. Both sides of the frame marked in a circle around the hammer screw. The left side marked C. SHARPS PATENT 1859″. The right side marked “C. SHARPS & CO PHILAD. PA”. The frame is extensively hand engraved on both sides, top, and at the butt. One piece ivory grip with a beautiful grain & aged patina. These pepperboxes were unusual as instead of having a rotating barrel group, they have a rotating firing pin. Fully functional, including the rotating firing pin, and will shoot the 2mm rimfire cartridges with the thick rim. Includes the original Weston mahogany beveled glass topped puzzle box case. The interior French fit and lined in red felt with a red ribbon border surrounding the pistol & accessories. The bottom of the case has the Weston red enamel on brass tag. When the interior insert is removed, the interior bottom of the case is stamped with Weston’s rubber stamp name & address, “WESTON REFORMA., PASEO DE LA REFORMS No. 157” plus hand written “TOM P. WESTON, E “triangle or delta) xd, 8/30/68” There is also under the insert a rectangular piece of yellow paper hand marked “HOUSE SAMPLE, NOT FOR SALE, TO ENGRAVE (ABOUT) T (triangle or delta) XDX, SEP 1, (not legible number, but most likely a 6) 8” I’m sure these cryptic letters & symbols are some kind of code for Weston’s prices. This piece of paper I think was originally taped to the bottom of the case which evidence can be seen in the photo of the case bottom. Accessories include a rectangular lift top tin cartridge box with brass lid knob, 9 2mm rimfire blank rounds & 2 2mm live rounds, an ivory handled cleaning/extractor rod with brass ferrule & blued steel shaft, & a twisted wire bristle bore cleaning brush. The case bottom with the typical Weston brass plaque with red enamel. Excellent near mint condition except the glass case top is a newer replacement. Stock # DF-05. Price: $2,750.00.
