Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale Hopkins & Allen “Parrot Head” derringer made by Tom P. Weston in Mexico City, Mexico, probably in the mid 1940’s to mid 1960’s. Fully functional and shoots the 2mm rim fire cartridge. 1 3/4″ long overall with a 7/8″ smoothbore barrel of about .085 caliber. The steel parts are finely polished and finished in a charcoal “blue” blue. The tip of the trigger is serrated. There is a button on the left rear of the frame that when pushed forward releases the barrel to pop up for loading. Two piece rosewood grips with brass escutcheons and a single screw entering from the left side. The left side of the barrel hand engraved with the Hopkins & Allen barrel address. Complete with the original deluxe beveled glass topped walnut case. The interior French fit & lined in a dark blue felt with red border edgings. Accessories include an rosewood handled blued cleaning/extractor rod with a brass ferrule, a round steel lift top tin which contains a number of 2mm rimfire blank cartridges, and a twisted wire handled bristle bore cleaning brush. The bottom of the case was originally stamped with one of Weston’s rubber stamps in black ink, and parts of it can still be seen. The bottom of the case marked in Sharpie “Paul D. Hess, M.D.”. There is a white rectangular sticker on the bottom with ink writing “HOPKINS & ALLEN. S.N. 4, STOCK NO. 731. The case interior is removable, and when removed you can see where is was also stamped with a Weston rubber stamp in black ink. Additionally, a large number “4” is heavily marked in pencil on the interior bottom. Although the bottom & interior of the case are marked 4, I can find no such marking on the miniature itself. The pistol is in near mint new condition showing only the most minor signs of handling wear. The case shows numerous small nicks & scratches, but could easily enough be refinished.
