Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is an engraved and ivory stocked 1/2 scale Winchester Model 1866 saddle ring carbine with deluxe casing by the renown Tom P. Weston of Mexico City, Mexico. Probably made in the 1950’s or 1960’s. 100% fully functional and chambered to shoot the .22 short rim fire cartridge. 19 1/4″ long overall with a 9 7/8″ .22 caliber rifled barrel. Brass frame, sideplates, cartridge lifter, crescent buttplate, and buttplate trapdoor. The frame, sideplates, cartridge lifter, and buttplate upper tang beautifully and expertly hand engraved with scrolls & vines. The left sideplate engraved with the Mexican eagle perched on a cactus, with a snake it it’s mouth. The balance of the metal parts are machined highly polished blued steel, except the lever, hammer, & trigger which are case hardened. The buttstock and forearm are ivory with a beautiful patina and grain. The buttstock with a high relief carved Mexican eagle perched on a cactus, with a snake in the eagle’s mouth on the left cheek. Checkered hammer spur, standard carbine flip adjustable rear sight, saddle ring mounted to the left rear of the frame. The top of the barrel hand engraved with the proper Winchester barrel address. Complete with the original Weston deluxe mahogany case with maple parquetry inlays along the top edge, and glass top. The interior of the case is French fit and lined in red felt. The case interior left front with the usual Weston heavy brass plaque which is hand engraved “MADE EXPRESSLY FOR, THE FAVELL MUSEUM (On a small brass plaque overlaid onto the larger one), WINCHESTER MODEL 1866, CARBINE 1/2 SCALE” in four lines. I very carefully removed the small plaque with the Favell Museum name on it. Underneath is hand engraved “NICK PETKAS”. There is a functional three piece cleaning rod in the trap in the buttstock. The serial number, “NO 25”, is stamped into the lower tang just behind the trigger. There are no Weston markings on the carbine, but the bottom of the case insert is stamped in black ink “WESTON REFORMA, PASEO DE LA REFORMA No 157” The signed in pencil “By TOM P. WESTON”, then again stamped in black ink “MEXICO 5, D. F.”. Wonderful near mint condition, perfect bright shiny rifled bore, I’d call it 99+%. A gorgeous piece, and the first I’ve ever handled with this deluxe parquetry casing. Stock # GK-1. Price: $7,500.00. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
