Project Description
This is a 1/2 scale baby Browning .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol made by Tom Konrad, about 1985. 2″ long overall with a 1 1/16″ rifled barrel of .123 caliber. 100% mechanically fully functional. Mr. Konrad was a paraplegic and made a total of five of these. He also made five 1/2 scale Colt 1911 pistols. He is probably best known for the set of three 1/2 scale pistols he made in solid 14 karat gold that are featured on page 163 of the book “The Art Of Miniature Firearms” which include a Colt single action army revolver, a P-08 German Luger, and a baby Browning. They were also featured in “The Robb Report” magazine many years ago in the 1980’s. This is the first one of these baby Browning’s I have ever had the pleasure to offer for sale! Tom Konrad is one of the top five miniature firearms craftsmen to ever walk the planet in my opinion, & his work is comparable to Raymond Hutchens & Leon Crottet, who are the absolute best!
This 1/2 scale miniature pistol started out as a pretty much standard issue baby Browning with nickel plated finish, gold plated trigger, & mother of pearl grips. All of the proper proof marks on the chamber of the barrel & the front of the slide are perfectly recreated, easier to see in the photos than for me to describe. I will give it a try though! Reading vertically from the muzzle end of the barrel chamber visible through the ejection port “unknown symbol, underlined, PV, +, U, crown, then an oval with the letters E over LU”. Reading horizontally “CAL 6mm 35”. The muzzle with “+ over U, the same unknown symbol, underlined, PV”. BROWNING ARMS COMPANY, MADE IN BELGIUM” is stamped on the left side of the slide. The serial number “4” and an “S” (safe) are stamped into the left side of the frame. The top rib, the rear of the slide on both sides, the safety, and the magazine release are serrated.
The pistol was later sent to master engraver Roger Sampson, along with a Miniart 1/2 scale Browning Hi-Power semi-automatic pistol to be “Renaissance” engraved to match the same style as sold by Browning. Roger’s signature is engraved into the left front of the triggerguard. It is very small & is difficult to se without magnification, & equally difficult to photograph. It was then finished in the proper satin nickel plating by master firearms finisher Terry Farrand. This miniature is just a joy to hold & view! The engraving is simply magnificent! Included are three dummy rounds & the perfect miniature Browning black leather zipper case lined in red felt with “BROWNING” marked in Gold. Now some may ask how I know all this? The answer is because, like many other high end miniature firearms projects, I was there when this all took place! An extremely rare miniature by a master craftsman & engraved by the best! Near mint condition with only the magazine release spring being weak. Stock # WD-4096. Price: $10,000.00.
