Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/4 scale 14 karat gold Colt 1851 Navy revolver cased set, serial # 90, sold in 1973 by the Texas Ranger Commemorative Commission to honor the 150th anniversary of the Texas Rangers. These were actually made by jeweler Burns Hamilton of Hereford, Texas. 100 were made in 14 karat gold with an additional 400 made in sterling silver for a total production of 500. This is the first one of these gold sets I have ever seen, though I did recently hear of another. You’d think, that with me being in Texas, I’d be finding these all the time, but not so! 3 3/16″ long overall. The revolver is not functional, more like a charm pistol in that the cylinder will turn and the hammer is spring loaded, but will not cock. No internal parts. The bottom of the grip strap stamped “90”. Nicely figured walnut grips. The accessories are also 14 karat gold & include a very nice non-functional powder flask, a two legged bullet mold with sprue cutter, a “L” shaped nipple wrench/screwdriver, and a number of small lead balls. The Top of the walnut hinged top casing has a round gold plated medallion with the Texas star in the center with wreaths. Surrounding that is, in embossed lettering, “STATE OF TEXAS, TEXAS RANGER COMMEMORATIVE COMMISSION”. The interior lid has a rectangular silver colored plaque that is machine or pantograph engraved in script “Texas Rangers, 1823 – 1973, Serial #90” in three lines. The bottom of the case lined in blue felt. A really neat & extremely rare item if you are a Texian, a collector Texas history, or just someone who is fascinated by the legend of the Texas Rangers. Excellent near mint condition showing only the most minor signs of handling. Stock # BK-41. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
