Project Description

!!!!!SOLD!!!!!  This is a 1/4 scale sterling silver Colt 1851 Navy revolver cased set, serial # 180, sold in 1973 by the Texas Ranger Commemorative Commission to honor the 150th anniversary of the Texas Rangers.  One of only 500.  This is the first one of these I have been able to offer in well over 4 years.  You’d think, that with me being in Texas, I’d be finding these all the time, but not so!  The revolver is 3 3/16″ long overall.  The revolver is not functional, more like a charm pistol in that the cylinder will turn and the hammer is spring loaded, but will not cock.  No internal parts.  Accessories include a very nice non-functional sterling silver powder flask, a sterling silver two legged bullet mold with sprue cutter, a sterling silver “L” shaped  nipple wrench/screwdriver, and a number of very small lead shot.  The Top of the walnut hinged top casing has a round sterling silver medallion with the Texas star in the center with wreaths.  Surrounding that is, in embossed lettering, “STATE OF TEXAS, TEXAS RANGER COMMEMORATIVE COMMISSION”.   The interior lid has a rectangular sterling silver plaque that is machine or pantograph engraved in script “Texas Rangers, 1823 – 1973, Serial # 180”.  A really neat item if you are a Texian, a collector Texas history, or just someone who is fascinated by the legend of the Texas Rangers.  There were reportedly also 50 of these sets made in 14 karat gold, but I have never seen one.  As I recall, these were done in some fund raising effort, maybe for the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco?  Excellent near mint condition showing only the most minor signs of handling.  !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
