Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This super rare prototype U. S. Historical Society Colt 1860 Army percussion revolver is a variation on their “Classic Edition” United States Historical Society 47% scale miniature Colt 1860 Army revolver, except it has what is called the “four screw frame”, a super rare fluted, instead of round cylinder with the Ormsby cylinder scene, and comes with the rare detachable shoulder stock. The revolver is 6 1/2″ long overall with a 3 23/32″ round rifled barrel. With the shoulder stock attached the overall length is 12 9/16″. Fully functional, but non-firing. Charcoal blue and case colored finish with a one piece nicely figured oil finished rosewood grip. Factory roll marked barrel address reading “-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY US AMERICA-” (The L in SAML is smaller, raised, & underlined), “.44 Cal” marked triggerguard, the front left of the frame marked “COLT’S, PATENT” in two lines. Rare Fluted cylinder. Serial number 340 stamped into the bottom of the barrel lug, the bottom front of the frame, the bottom front of the triggerguard, the bottom of the backstrap, the interior recess of the brass stock yoke, and the top tang of the buttplate. Looking closely at the number stamped into the interior recess of the stock yolk, the last two numbers, the 4 & 0, have been over stamped, the 4 looks like over a 1 or 7, the 0 over a 5, but obviously done at the factory with the correct number punches. The detachable stock has a yellow brass yoke, and buttplate, with charcoal blue hardware. The wood is a nice piece of straight grained rosewood. This miniature was made by Uberti for the USHS under license from Colt, in the mid 80’s. This was likely one of a short prototype run. I think, for whatever reason, they decided not to offer them to their clientele. Unlike most of the other Uberti miniature Colt revolvers, which were made until about 2008, these miniature 1860 Colt revolvers have not been made in well over 40 years. This is an extremely rare Uberti miniature, and only maybe the fourth I have ever had the pleasure of offering for sale. Complete with the original USHS glass top case mahogany with the COLT logo etched into the top right rear corner of the glass. The interior French fit and lined in a light blue felt. The interior has the usual USHS rectangular brass plaque reading “1860 ARMY COLT MINIATURE, CLASSIC EDITION, COLT FIREARMS, UNITED STATES HISTORICAL SOCIETY”. The case looks to be the same as the USHS used on their 1861 Colt Navy revolvers with shoulder stock, except fitted for the slightly larger Army revolver. Excellent near mint condition with only a couple of tiny hairline scratches on the side of the hammer from friction with the frame, a couple small finish blemishes on the top of the backstrap from the stock yolk, and some stains to the interior lining which don’t really show with the lid closed. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
