Project Description
!!!!!PRICE REDUCED!!!!! This is a cased pair of 1/3 scale ivory stocked flintlock Maastricht pistols by master miniaturist Stanley Blashak of New Castle, PA. These are very early examples of Stanley’s work, & probably made in the 1970’s. Each pistol is 6 1/4″ long with 4″ steel part octagon part round cannon muzzle barrels of .125 caliber. Steel lock assemblies, the locks have both half & full cock with a crisp action. The furniture & fittings are yellow brass, which is unusual as Stanley typically use German silver or white brass for his furniture & fittings. Also unusual are the brass helmets on the warrior heads at the bottom of the grips. These is the only Blashak pistols I have seen with these features. The rear of the lockplate has some modest engraving. The rear ramrod thimble, triggerguard bow, & sideplate are very nicely engraved, the sideplate in high relief. The brass helmets are beautifully sculpted, and are held in place by a steel screw on each side. One piece ivory stocks with high relief carving around the rear ramrod thimbles, around the rear barrel tangs, at the rear of the lockplates & sideplates, & of course the warriors faces. The stock has some nice fluting on each side along the ramrod channel. Ivory ramrods with brass tips. The lone accessory is an ivory powder flask with ivory plug & engraved brass bottom. All displayed in a typical Blashak hinged top walnut case with brass hinges & nickel silver rotating latch. This piece won a NRA silver medal in 1987 back when the NRA used the same size medals as they awarded for full size firearms. The medal is marked “!”, and this was the first year the NRA awarded medals separately to miniature arms. Mary Kopsch was the winner of all three medals awarded that year. I am told that this miniature actually won medal #2, and a broomhandle Mauser won medal #1, & Mrs. Kopsch evidently got them backwards. I don’t guess it matters much as she won all three medals that year. The medal has been inset into the top lid of the case & would not be removable without destroying the case lid. The interior lid has a nicely done circular cutout showing the rear of the medal with the number when the lid is opened. Near mint 99% condition. A beautiful & historic pair of Stanley Blashak’s early work. Ex Mary & Paul Kopsch, Kennith Whichard, & Ted Campbell collections. Stock # MC-62. Price Reduced: $3,950.00.
