Project Description
This is a cased pair of 1/3 scale ivory stocked flintlock Dutch Maastricht pistols by master miniaturist Stanley Blashak of New Castle, PA. These are very early examples of Stanley’s work, & probably made in the 1970’s. Each pistol is 6 1/4″ long with 4″ steel part octagon part round cannon muzzle barrels of .125 caliber, the barrels & barrel tangs finished in the white. Steel lock assemblies finished in the white, the locks have both half & full cock with a crisp action. The furniture looks to be silver plated brass instead of Stanley’s usual German silver, which leads me to believe these are some of his earliest works. These is the only the second set of Blashak Maastrich pistols I have seen with these metal helmets, the other set has all brass furniture & brass helmets. The rear of the lockplate has some modest engraving. The rear ramrod thimble, triggerguard bow, & sideplate are very nicely engraved. The helmets & warrior faces are beautifully sculpted. One piece ivory stocks with high relief carving around the rear ramrod thimbles, around the rear barrel tangs, at the rear of the lockplates & sideplates, & of course the warriors faces. The stock has some nice fluting on each side along the ramrod channel. Full length ivory ramrods with silver plated tips. The lone accessory is an ivory powder flask with ivory plug & engraved silver plated fittings. All displayed in a typical Blashak hinged top walnut case with brass hinges & nickel silver rotating latch. The interior French fit & lined in a burgundy felt. Near mint 99% condition except for some expected tarnish to the silver. A beautiful cased pistol pair of Stanley Blashak’s early works. Ex Ralph Koebbeman collection. Stock # CK-65. Price: $4,500.00.
