Project Description

!!!!!SOLD!!!!!  This is a 2/5 scale Kentucky “Mule Ear” percussion rifle my master miniature maker Ron DeWalt.  Ron just passed away a couple months ago.  19 1/16″ long overall with a 13 7/16″ rifled octagon barrel.  Machined steel barrel, lock assembly, rear sight, & screws.  Brass furniture with the exception of the barrel pin escutcheons which are German silver.  The barrel is bored complete to the touch hole and the piece is fully functional and shootable given the proper caps, powder, and lead balls.  Dovetailed brass front sight.  Dovetailed steel “V” notch rear sight.  The lockplate, hammer, rear barrel tang, sideplate, and patchbox are very nicely engraved.  There are silver wire inlays on the top and bottom of the buttstock just ahead of the buttplate tangs, and more on the left side of the buttstock just ahead of the buttplate.  There is an engraved German silver spread winged eagle inlaid into the cheekpiece on the left side of the buttstock.  There is an ivory oval inlaid into the top wrist of the stock just behind the barrel tang, and two ivory diamonds inlaid into the bottom tang of the buttplate.  Hickory ramrod with brass ends on both ends, one of which is lightly grooved for holding a patch.  The top of the hammer is stamped “DEWALT” & a backwards “3”.  The hammer with full cock only.  Complete with a hinged top case which may or may not be original to this piece.  The case is not fitted, and is lined in an orange felt.  The bottom of the case lined with an olive green felt.  Both the top parts of the latches are missing, and the case shows considerable wear both inside & out.  The rifle is near mint, except for some expected tarnish to the brass fittings which gives it a great aged period look.  A beautiful and expertly made miniature rifle that is sure to please!  !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
