Project Description

!!!!!SOLD!!!!!  Although at first glance this looks like your common average 3/8″ ratchet with a socket attached, it is actually a single shot pistol.  This actual piece is pictured on page 163, figure 188, and described on page 164, of Lewis Winant’s classic book Firearms Curiosa.  Mr. Winant describes it as:  “A wrench pistol of uncertain origin, but probably of World War II vintage is pictured in figure 188.  It is an American all steel socket or box wrench, size 21/32″, converted to a single shot pistol using some special center fire cartridge of about .26 caliber.  The handle of the wrench becomes the barrel of the pistol, and the socket head becomes the pistol grip.  The knurled part of the wrench handle may be unscrewed to load a cartridge.  The cartridge may be fired after pulling the round projection which is the hammer, and pressing with the thumb the button on top which is the trigger.”  I suspect this takes a .25 ACP cartridge.  8 1/2″ long overall with the hammer in the fired position, 8 3/4″ when cocked.  The ratchet of course does not work.  The socket part is made up of a New Britain 1/2″ to 3/8″ adapter welded to a New Britain 21/32″ standard length 12 point socket.  Very well made & one of the coolest things I have ever had the pleasure of offering!  Stock # KD-40.  !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
