Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/4 scale bolt action single shot rifle made by Tom P. Weston in Mexico City, Mexico late 1940’s to mid 1970’s. A very similar piece is featured in Arthur Brown’s book “Miniatures of Mexico” on page 53, & includes an original Weston lift top cardboard box. This is the only known deluxe cased rifle of this type known. 9 7/8″ long overall with a 5″ round stepped barrel of .10 caliber. The barrel, action, sights, triggerguard, and trigger are blued steel. The bolt assembly is steel & finished in the white. One piece straight grained walnut stock with a 1/8″ thick brown leather recoil pad. Dovetailed ramp type front sight with serrated steps. Dovetailed rear sight with a serrated top. The bolt cocks on closing. There is what looks to be a rivet, finished in the white, that secures the barreled action to the stock. This rifle is chambered for & will shoot the many, (about 50), included 3mm centerfire blank cartridges. These cartridges are pretty much known to be proprietary to Tom Weston miniatures & sell for about $10.00 each to cartridge collectors. Complete with the original Weston glass topped puzzle box mahogany case. The case interior French fit & lined in a dark purple felt. The openings for the rifle & accessories are lined in a tan felt. There is a strap that lies under the rifle with a pull tab to help in removing the rifle from e case. The case bottom underneath the rifle is lined in a red felt. The case fitted insert can be removed, but unlike many Weston’s, there are no marking of any kind underneath. The bottom of the case shows a filled oval recess where the usual Weston brass with red or green enamel tag would have been. Unknown if someone pinched it or if it was made that way. Accessories include a walnut handled blue steel cleaning rod with patch slot, & three blued steel rectangular tins with brass knobs on the tops which hold a large quantity of the Weston 3mm centerfire cartridges. The cartridges are old, show signs of oxidation, & not guaranteed to fire. A similar rifle is pictured in Arthur Brown’s book “Miniature Guns of Mexico” on page 53. After talking to Art on the phone, who is the acknowledged authority on Weston miniatures, & both of us looking over the photos of the one in his book, and it to the photos of this rifle, we are both convinced that this is a previously unknown legitimate Tom Weston miniature rifle. Here’s your chance to own a incredibly rare possibly one-of-a-kind previously unknown Tom Weston Miniature! Stock # BK-16. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
