Project Description

This is a set of five “Presidential Edition” 47% scale miniature Colt  revolvers made by Uberti in Italy, about 40 years ago.  The five are 1847 Walker, 1851 Navy, 1860 Army, & 1861 Navy with detachable shoulder stock, & Colt Single Action Army.  All five have factory roll stamped Colt barrel addresses.  Each is cased in it’s original USHS glass topped mahogany hinged top case & the original manilla bottom & brown top lift top cardboard boxes.    All of the revolvers & cases are in mint new 99+% condition & mechanically perfect.  Some of the cardboard boxes have splits in the tops & some minor scuffing, mostly to the edges.

The 1847 Colt Walker:

This is a 47% scale Colt 1847 Walker percussion revolver “Presidential Edition” issued by the United States Historical Society back in the 1980’s.  These were made by Uberti in Italy for the USHS under license from Colt.  Fully functional, but non-firing.  7 1/8″ long overall with a 4 1/4″ .21 caliber rifled barrel.  The cylinder has the typical Ormsby roll stamped scene of a U.S. cavalry & Indian battle.  Beautiful factory scroll hand engraved with about 50% coverage.  The barrel, cylinder, trigger, wedge, and screws are finished in blue.  The frame, hammer, rammer, and loading lever are case colored.  The trigger guard is gold plated brass and the grip is one piece of sterling silver.  Nickel silver blade type front sight.  The barrel has the proper one line Colt barrel address roll stamped on the top flat of the barrel, reading correctly when held in the left hand, (Colt was left handed).  The left side of the barrel lug stamped “US, 1847” in two lines.  Checkered hammer spur .  Serial number “110” stamped into the bottom of the barrel, frame, triggerguard, & the side of the cylinder.  100% fully functional except the nipples are only drilled about half way through.  Complete with the original USHS mahogany casing with glass top.  The glass etched with the Colt logo.  The interior of the case French fit in a medium gray velour.  Inside the case is an engraved brass presentation plaque with the USHS data.   Mint new condition except for some expected tarnish to the silver grip.

The 1851 Colt Navy:

This is a 47% scale Colt 1851 Navy revolver as issued by the United States Historical Society back in the 1980’s.  This is the “Presidential Edition” and was made by Uberti under license from Colt for the USHS.  Fully functional, but non-firing.  6 1/4″ long overall with a 3 1/2″ octagon rifled barrel of .17 caliber.  Beautifully factory hand engraved with about 75% coverage.  The frame, hammer, rammer, and loading lever are case colored.  The balance of the steel parts are charcoal blue.  The brass triggerguard & backstrap are gold plated.  The yellow brass bead front sight showing a nice, aged patina.  The top of the barrel roll stamped with the proper Colt barrel address “- ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY-“.  The front left of the frame marked “COLT’S PATENT” in two lines.  The cylinder roll stamped with the Ormsby naval battle scene.  The serial number, 110, stamped into the barrel lug, frame, triggerguard, backstrap, and the side of the cylinder.  Mother of pearl grip with a gold Colt medallion on the left side.  Checkered hammer spur & loading lever latch.  Complete with the original USHS glass topped mahogany casing with Colt etched into the right rear corner of the glass.  The interior case bottom French fit and lined in a light blue velour.  The bottom of the case lined in a brown felt.  Mint new condition.  This is possibly the most popular, and definitely the most difficult to find, of the USHS “Presidential Series” Colts.  These are really beautiful, and not all that expensive considering the high quality hand engraving, pearl grip, and beautiful finishing.  In my opinion, these USHS “Presidential Series” Colts are the best “bang for the buck” in miniature arms collecting!

The 1960 Colt Army:

This is a 47% scale miniature Colt 1860 “Presidential Edition” Army revolver as sold by the United States Historical Society back in the mid to late 1980’s.  These were a limited edition made by Uberti in Italy, under license from Colt.  These fancy engraved “Presidential Edition” miniature Colts were made in far fewer numbers than the normal plain “Classic Edition” models and were far more expensive.  6 1/2″ long overall with a 3 3/4″ rifled round barrel of .21 caliber.   Fully functional, but non-firing.  Beautifully factory hand engraved, mostly in scrolls, with full frame coverage, 50% barrel coverage, 50% backstrap coverage, and 25% triggerguard coverage.  Charcoal blue and case colored finish, except for the gold plated triggerguard and the nickel silver front sight.  One piece pre-ban ivory grip showing some nice grain and just a little age patina.  Factory roll marked barrel address, “-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA”.  “.44 Cal” marked triggerguard, “COLT’S PATENT” stamped into the left front of the frame.  The cylinder is roll stamped with the Ormsby naval battle scene.  Serial # “110” is stamped into the bottom of the barrel, frame, triggerguard, and backstrap.  “02” is stamped into the side of the cylinder.  Complete with the original USHS glass topped mahogany hinged top casing with slide latch.  The interior French fit with a red felt lining.  The Colt logo is etched into the right rear corner of the glass.  There is a brass rectangular plaque inside the case that is engraved “1860 ARMY COLT MINIATURE, PRESIDENTIAL EDITION, COLT FIREARMS, UNITED STATES HISTORICAL SOCIETY” in four lines.  Typical mint new condition.  Unlike all the other Uberti miniature Colts, which were made until about 2008, these 1860 miniature Colt revolvers have not been made in well over 40 years.

The Colt 1861 Colt Navy With Shoulder Stock:

This is a 47% scale miniature Colt 1861 Navy revolver with detachable shoulder stock, made by Uberti in Italy and originally issued and sold by the United States Historical Society, under license from Colt in the 1980’s.  This is the Presidential edition, which is expertly and beautifully fully engraved, including the shoulder stock fittings and buttplate.  12 1/8″ long overall with the shoulder stock attached.  The revolver is 6″ long overall with a 3 9/16″ round rifled barrel.  Checkered loading lever latch and hammer spur, the hammer with both half & full cock.  The top of the barrel factory roll stamped with the proper Colt one line address, “-ADDRESS SAML (underlined small, raised L) COLT NEW-YORK CITY-“.  The left side of the frame marked “COLT’S PATENT”.  The left rear of the triggerguard marked “36 CAL”.  The barrel, frame, triggerguard, cylinder, stock yoke, & butt plate tang stamped with the serial number 110.  The nut that tightens the revolver to the stock is knurled.  Fully functional, but non-firing. The barrel wedge, nipples, screws, hammer, trigger, lanyard ring, and stock locking screws are all a beautiful charcoal “blue” blue.  The frame, barrel, cylinder, loading lever, backstrap, triggerguard, shoulder stock fitting, and buttplate are all silver plated.  Nicely figured rosewood one piece grip and shoulder stock.  The piece is in absolute mint condition, showing only some expected age tarnish to the silver plating.  Includes the original USHS glass topped mahogany case with etched Colt logo on the glass and slide latch.  The interior French fit and lined in a medium blue velour.  There is a rectangular brass plaque on the left side under the barrel with the USHS info “1861 NAVY COLT MINIATURE, PRESENTIAL EDITION, COLT FIREARMS, UNITED STATES HISTORICAL SOCIETY” in four lines.  A really attractive piece with the lowest production of all the United States Historical Society “Presidential Edition” miniatures.  These 1861 Navy revolvers with shoulder stocks were never issued with the manilla & brown cardboard boxes.

The Colt Single Action Army:

This is a “Presidential Edition” Colt single action army revolver as issued by the United States Historical Society.  Made in Italy by Uberti under license from Colt.  6 1/8″ long overall with a 3 1/2″ .21 caliber rifled barrel.  Gold & silver plated finish, with gold plated screws, & checkered pre-ban ivory grips.  Beautifully engraved in American scroll with about 50% coverage.  Serial # 114 stamped into the frame, triggerguard, & the bottom of the backstrap, as all these were.  The actual serial number, “110” is stamped into the cylinder pin boss just below the cylinder pin, and on the loading gate hinge.  This is a miniature of the first known engraved Colt single action army revolver, which was serial number 114, which was probably on display at the 1876 “Centennial” exhibition.  It is a very faithful miniature reproduction with excellent high quality engraving, and high quality checkering on the ivory grip. The two patent dates are stamped into the left front of the frame, “-PAT. JULY 25, 1871-, -PAT. JULY 2, 1872-“, the barrel with the proper one line italics barrel address, “+COLT’S PT. F. A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.+”, the left rear of the triggerguard with the “44 CAL” caliber marking. Checkered hammer spur. Early black powder “pinched” frame topstrap, round “bullseye” ejector rod button, and the cylinder pin secured by a screw.  Fully functional but non-firing.  Complete with the original USHS glass topped mahogany casing with etched Colt logo on the glass & slide latch.  The interior French fit in a dark green velvet, with the usual USHS engraved brass rectangular plaque, “No. 114 SINGLE ACTION ARMY, CLASSIC EDITION, COLT FIREARMS, UNITED STATES HISTORICAL SOCIETY”, in four lines.    The revolver is in mint new condition except for the expected tarnish to the silver plating.
