Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a solid brass full size modern reproduction of an antique matchlock jailer’s key pistol. 8 1/2″ long overall with a 3 5/8″ smoothbore barrel of about .38 caliber. The outer barrel measures about .720 in diameter. The pistol is cast yellow brass, with a cast brass trigger/hammer held in place with a brass rivet. The left top side of the hammer area is stamped “R.KERN”, which I assume is the maker. Includes a nice long cloth “match” or wick. There is a casting flaw with some oxidation/corrosion on the top of the key behind the touch hole and ahead of the figure 8 handle which shouldn’t be a problem, still, to me this is a decorator piece. If you desire to shoot it, you do so at your own risk, & I would strongly advise you to have a competent gunsmith check it over and approve it for firing with his approved load before doing so! Remember, brass is soft! It’s a really cool piece, & I’ve had it hanging around the bookcases in my office for probably 15 years. Time to pare down the “dustables”, & make room for new treasures! Ex Nelson Perry collection. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
