Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a miniature African Boer wagon handmade in Zimbabwe many years ago. These wagons were used by the Dutch Boer settlers on their treks across Africa in the mid 1800’s, similar to how settlers in the U.S. used Conestoga wagons to settle the west. 9 5/8″ long, 4 1/4″ wide, 7 1/8″ tall. It is constructed almost entirely of elephant ivory, the cover or sale made from the hollow part of the tusk. The spoked wheels have brass tires, and most of the metal details are yellow brass, with the exception of some of the small brads or nails which look to be steel. Excellent condition, but there is some glue residue visible on the inside where it looks like the cover or sale came loose & was repaired, but it’s not noticeable from the outside. Weight is 2 pounds & 1 ounce. Very nicely detailed & well executed, obviously by a master ivory carver. This has been collecting dust on a shelf in my office for many years. I’m trying to cut down on my “Dustables”, and have decided to offer it up for sale. U.S sales only, and may not be legal to ship to all states. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
