Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale 1876 Winchester saddle ring carbine made by master miniature maker Michael “Mike” Barrett in Minnesota. 21 1/16″ long overall with an 11″ round rifled barrel of .22 caliber. As a historical note, these carbines were carries & used by the Canadian North West Mounted Police for many years. As with all of Mike’s miniatures, this one was sold by him in the white. It was then sent to Doug Turnbull in New York who did the proper barrel address, caliber, and upper tang lettering. The hammer was miss shaped, so Turnbull welded up the hammer, reshaped it, then re-checkered the hammer spur. The piece was then polished to the proper finish and blued. The loading gate door was nitre blued which is a true blue color. The hammer & lever are beautifully color case hardened. Turns out that the frame, sideplates, and barrel band spring are made of stainless steel & would not take Turnbull’s normal blueing process. The finish on the receiver, sideplates, and barrel band spring looks like a satin nickel or a subdued brushed stainless steel. There are other gunsmiths who do have the proper means to blue these stainless steel parts if someone had a mind to do that. Winchester used stainless steel barrels on many of it’s rifles for scores of years. The stock and musket looking forearm are beautiful highly figured American walnut with a satin oil finish. Although some might mistakenly call this a musket, it is indeed a carbine, and all Winchester 1876 carbines were stocked this way. Dovetailed sporting front sight. Dovetailed ladder adjustable long range rear sight. The carbine type buttplate has the brass sliding door for a cleaning rod which is not included. Stock # CT-01. Price $3,850.00. Price Further Reduced to: $2,950.00. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
