Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale miniature of a French 1892 Berthier bolt action military single shot cavalry carbine made by Maruis Seyve in 1940, so marked & dated. Although the Berthier was a three shot magazine repeating carbine, this miniature is made as a single shot. 20″ long overall with a 10 7/16 tapered round rifled barrel of .22 caliber.  Machined steel construction with the steel parts all finished in the white. The receiver is octagon shaped. One piece walnut stock with a high gloss varnished finish. There is no buttplate, instead the butt is serrated. The left side of the receiver marked “FIAT PAR MARIUS SEYVE”, which translates from French to “Made by Marius Seyve”. The right side marked “AUCH – 1940”, which translates from French to “Also – 1940”, but I think it means August 1940. The rifle is chambered for & will shoot the .22 short rimfire cartridge. The action is crisp with a very strong firing pin & a functional extractor. Blade type front sight with an elevation adjustable rear sight. Complete with the original walnut hinged top case, the top edges & corners look to be inlaid maple. The case has a brass shield shaped escutcheon centered in the middle of the top which is engraved “1940 SEYVE, MARIUS, AUCH”. The bottom front venter of the case with a shield shaped brass escutcheon that is engraved with a wreath surrounding a coat of arms in a shield with a crown & three crosses. The slide latch buttons are engraved with an “S” on the left & a “M” on the right. The case interior French fit, padded, & lined in a dark blue velvet. The case interior bottom insert is hinged at the rear & will raise up, for what purpose I don’t know. The carbine is in excellent condition, the metal generally bright white with only very minor signs of staining. The stock does show numerous minor handling bruises & scratches, I’d call it 95%. The case also excellent, but does show numerous small bruises & scratches. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
