!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale Savage Model 1899 lever action rifle made by Louis Elkas. Mr. Elkas worked for the Savage Arms Company for 43 years, and held several patents on firearms and the processes to make them. I was lucky enough to buy his entire collection, all of which he made himself, from his wife. 18 5/16″ long overall with a 10 1/2″ round barrel of about .120 caliber. Blue steel finish except for the bolt, which is finished in the white, and the buttplate, which is yellow brass. Straight grip, crescent buttplate. Beautiful highly figured claro walnut buttstock and forearm. Dovetailed step adjustable rear sight, dovetailed front sight with a yellow brass blade insert. This piece has some rust issues. there is rust along both sides of the barrel where it meets the forearm, on the top tang, on the lever, and on the bottom tang. The lever safety is there, but is frozen up, probably from rust. The lever seems to cock OK, but has a stiff place or two. The trigger moves, but doesn’t seem to do anything. I think there is some rust in the internals that is keeping the action from working. There is too much going on here for me to repair with my limited skill sets. I considered sending it out to have it repaired, but decided to just sell it “AS – IS”. Hopefully one of you has the skills to put this neat piece back into pristine condition. In mint condition, this is worth about $3,500.00. Complete with a letter from Mr. Elkas’s wife Helen, attesting to the fact that her husband made this rifle.
