Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale miniature Thompson Model 1921 sub-machine gun made by master miniature maker Leon Crottet of Switzerland. This exact miniature Thompson featured on page 104 of Joseph D. Kramer’s book “Scale Model Firearms. I was told by the consignor that Mr. Crottet only made two 1/2 scale Thompsons, and that they were the very first miniatures he made.
16 13/16″ long overall with a 6” long round finned barrel, including the Cutts compensator. This piece entirely finished in the white except for the drum magazine which is Parkerized. Why, I do not know, but I will be emailing Mr. Crottet tonight to see what additional information he may offer. Proper straight grained American walnut pistol grips (2), & buttstock. The buttplate with a trap door, in which the perfect miniature Thompson oiler is secluded. Every marking on this piece is done to perfection, & in the same way it as done at the factory. Roll stamps in some places, punch stamps in others. Fully functional safety & fire control lever. Complete & fully functional Lyman windage & elevation adjustable rear sight, with all the proper calibration & maker’s markings. The fire control levers, the end of the magazine release, & the stock release button are checkered. I’m not going to go into detail about the markings, they are easily seen in the photos. There is a JHB in a circle marking on the right front of the upper receiver. This is the inspector stamp approval mark of John H. Barrett. Many of the parts are stamped with the number 2, or 002. It is unusual for a Crottet that the barrel is not bored all the way through, not rifled. May have to do with it being a miniature of a class III firearm.
Mr. Crottet, in my opinion, is one of the two best miniature makers to ever walk the planet, along with Raymond Hutchens. These two are head & shoulders above any other miniature maker! Not only are their miniatures as perfect as can be made, they made the most complex miniatures known to exist. Stock # BD-11. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
