This is a 1/3 scale Colt “Texas” Paterson percussion revolver made by master miniature maker Larry Smith of Florida. 4 3/16″ long overall with a 2 15/32″ octagon barrel of about .121 caliber. The hammer has both half and full cock, the cylinder must be manually indexed, and the trigger is fixed and does not fold which is typical for Larry Smith Colt Patersons. While most of Larry’s miniature Colt Paterson revolvers are made to shoot 2mm pinfire blank cartridges, this one is actually percussion, with five percussion nipples screwed into the cylinder chambers. Larry’s percussion Patersons are extremely rare! Machined steel barrel, cylinder, & hammer. The barrel, cylinder, trigger, wedge, and screws finished in a beautiful fire blue. The barrel shows 5 decorative inlaid gold bands. Silver plated frame and backstrap. The top flat of the barrel engraved and gold inlaid “-L. H. SMITH – FLA. U.S.A.-” Serial number 234 stamped into the bottom of the barrel, frame, backstrap, and into the rear of the cylinder. Smooth hammer spur, the hammer finished in the white. Yellow brass cone type front sight. Beautiful one piece ivory grip. Accessories include a Larry Smith marked copper & brass five spout spout powder charger with the five round ball projectile dispenser at the other end. When taken apart in the middle by twisting then pulling, it reveals the spent cartridge ejector pin. Also when taken apart, you can see the Larry Smith markings on the bottom of the top half which reads “L.H. SMITH, – -, FLA.-U.S.A., 4” in 4 lines. These five spout powder chargers are very rare in Larry’s cased sets. Another rarity is the Larry Smith Colt Paterson capper. The capper is not functional, but looks good from the outside including the cap capture spring at the nose, and the top is engraved with the Colt rampant colt logo and “COLT’S PATENT, PATENT ARMS MAN CO, PATERSON N.J.” around the outer perimeter. The lid to the capper opens, but there are no internal parts. Also included is a brass cleaning rod with a jagged end, turned walnut handle, and brass ferrule. There is a three legged fire blued bullet mold marked on the left side “.12C”, and “S” on the sprue cutter near the pivot pin, with turned walnut handles and brass ferrules, and the Paterson combination tool which is a loading lever and screwdriver, which is finished in the white. All the above cased in the original Larry Smith hinged top mahogany casing with slide latch. The interior French fit and lined in a dark burgundy felt. The bottom of the case stamped “-L.H.-, SMITH, 234″ in three lines. The revolver is mint as new showing only the most minor evidence of handling with 99++% original fire blue and 99% original silver plating. The accessories are also mint, showing a nice aged patina to the brass. The case in in excellent condition, and features a rectangular nickel plated brass plate with scalloped corners held into the top center of the outer lid by two small brads. The plate engraved in script “Colt’s 1836, Texas Paterson”. This is an extremely nice and very rare set with the gold barrel bands, ivory grip, five spout flask, and capper! In looking through my sales of Larry Smith Patersons for the last 5 years, not one has had the five spout flask or capper. Stock # JA-01. Price: $2,500.00.
