Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale Remington Vest Pocket derringer by master miniature maker Larry Smith of Florida. 2 1/8″ long overall with a 1 5/8″ round barrel of about .110 caliber. Charcoal blue finish except for the sides of the hammer which are polished and in the white, nickel silver grip escutcheons, and two yellow brass screws. Checkered hammer spur. Yellow brass bead front sight. Nicely figured two piece ivory grips with a nice aged patina and beautiful grain. The grips have German silver escutcheons and a single fire blued screw entering from the left side. The bottom of the barrel stamped with the serial number “83” near the trigger. The top of the frame marked “REMINGTONS ILION. N.Y., PAT OCT. 1, 1861”, in two lines. Includes the original Larry Smith walnut hinged top casing. The case interior semi-French fit and lined in a purple felt. The bottom of the case stamped “-L.H.-, SMITH” in two lines, then the serial number which looks to be an “8” over a “7” and a “3” over an “8”. . Look like at some point Larry renumbered the case for some reason. Accessories include 13 2mm rimfire blank cartridges and a blue steel cleaning/ejector rod with a yellow brass knob. Also included is a really cool sterling silver & scrimshawed ivory belt buckle that holds this miniature. The belt buckle was not made by Larry, & is not marked, so who knows? The belt buckle has a silver frame with a slab of nicely aged ivory that has been recessed to hold the VP in place. There is a wire loop that secures the hammer, and a sewing pin that goes through the frame of the buckle into the muzzle of the barrel. There is scrimshawed “A”‘s at the left top & right rear corners along with card spade motifs. The center of the buckle with a larger spade motif that is interrupted by the recess for the pistol. There is some kind of what loos to be a British coin in the upper left corner, and an inlaid silver pair of dice faces inlaid into the upper right corner. The back of the buckle has a bail to attach the belt on one side, & a hook on the other for engaging the belt holes. Nice condition. The fire blue is 90%, the grips and buckle are near perfect. Personally, I’d never wear this out in public for fear of loosing it, but it makes a great display & conversation piece! !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
