!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale Remington Elliott single shot derringer made by John Sutherland, 30 – 40 years ago. 2 7/16″ long overall with a 1 9/32″ round barrel of about .168 caliber. Yellow brass frame. Fire blued steel barrel, hammer, trigger, & grip screw. The hammer & trigger pins are yellow brass. Two piece mother of pearl grips with a single screw entering from the left side. Brass pin head front sight. Checkered hammer spur. The barrel with two gold bands inlaid near the muzzle. The barrel address marked “REMINGTON’S, ILION, N.Y., ELLIOTT PAT. AUG. 27, 1867” in two lines. The bottom of the frame marked “5” just ahead of the trigger. Complete with the original Sutherland mahogany hinged top casing, the interior French fit and lined in a burgundy velvet. The top of the case with a unadorned brass plaque. The bottom of the case marked with a black marker “John Sutherland, Fostoria, Ohio 44830” in script. Accessories include a brass cleaning/ejector rod, a two piece functional brass oiler, and four solid yellow brass dummy cartridges. The dummy cartridges with an impressed “D” headstamp. The piece is in excellent condition looks wise. There is some slight thinning of the blue on the barrel, and a small area of the interior lid lining is missing. Mechanically, the hammer does not drop when the trigger is pulled. The hammer spring and trigger spring both work, but the action doesn’t. I sent this piece to Larry Smith who said someone had worked on the hammer & removed too much material for it to be properly repaired. So, it really needs a new hammer made for it.
