!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale Ethan Allen side swing derringer made by the late John Sutherland of Ottawa Lake, Michigan. 2 1/8″ long overall with a 1 1/4″ barrel of about .148 caliber. The original Ethan Allen derringers I believe were made in .22, .30, and .32 rim fire. Nickel plated finish except for the hammer, trigger, and screws which are fire blued. The top of the barrel stamped “E. ALLEN & CO.”. Checkered hammer spur. Two piece mother of pearl grips with brass escutcheons and a single screw entering from the left side. Includes the original Sutherland hinged top walnut casing with a flip latch on the front. The rear hinges are very unusual and may have been hand made by Mr. Sutherland. The bottom of the case with an old yellowed type written white sticker that reads “Ethan Allen derringer, by John Sutherland, Ottawa Lake, Michigan” in three lines. The case interior is semi French fit and lined in a burgundy velvet. Accessories include three dummy cartridges which do fit into the chamber, and a brass handled steel cleaning/extractor rod. The dummy cartridges with turned brass cases and lead bullets. The miniature is in excellent near mint condition, the case interior lining is starting to fray somewhat around the edges. Sutherland miniatures are seldom offered for sale these days, and in my opinion, this is one of his more interesting pieces. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
