Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a true 1/2 or 50% scale Colt single action army revolver made by master miniature maker Isaias Aguilar of Texas. Mr. Aguilar was one of the craftsmen who worked for Tom Weston in Mexico City, Mexico, and possibly also fro Fred Thacker in El Paso, Texas. In his later years he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas to live with his daughter there. This is not to be confused with one of the Uberti Colt SAA revolvers which are 47% scale. Although there is only a 3% difference, it is very noticeable when seen & held “in hand”! This 1/2 or 50% scale miniature is 100% hand made with no castings. It is 6 7/8″ long overall with a 3 3/4″ .22 caliber rifled barrel. Where as a similar Uberti Colt 47% scale SAA is 6″ long overall with a 3 7/16″ rifled barrel of .21 caliber. Full nickel plated finish. One piece rosewood grip. The serial number “4” is stamped into the bottom of the frame, triggerguard, backstrap, and the rear of the cylinder. Checkered hammer spur, the hammer has the normal four click as it is cocked. Brass blade type front sight and standard topstrap notch rear sight. Black powder frame with the bullseye ejector rod button and a screw securing the cylinder pin. The hammer has a rim fire firing pin, and upon first inspection, I thought this would shoot the .22 short rimfire cartridges, or maybe .22 BB caps. But not quite. The barrel is rifled, and the correct bore diameter, but the cylinder has not been finished reamed for the .22 short cartridges. The cartridges will start, & go most of the way into the cylinder, but lack about 1/16 going all the way in. Even if they did, there is not enough clearance between the rear of the cylinder and the front of the recoil shield for the cartridge rims to pass. A qualified gunsmith would need to finish ream the chambers, and rebate the rear of the cylinder where the cartridge rims would fit flush with the rear of the cylinder. Not a big deal, & Mr. Aguilar probably figured that if it wouldn’t chamber a cartridge, then it wouldn’t be an actual firearm. A really beautiful hand crafted miniature Colt which could easily be made to shoot. This is one of only two Aguilar Colt SAA revolvers I have ever seen, & I will be listing the other one soon! From the personal miniature collection of Joel Morrow. Stock # JM-22. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
