Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/5 scale Colt 1911 A1 in 14 karat gold with sterling silver grips by master jeweler Alex Baez of California & Herschel Kopp of Ohio. 1 3/4″ long overall with a 3/4″ barrel of about .068 caliber. All the parts are 14 karat gold, except for the steel springs, and the sterling silver grips & grip screws. This piece is fully functional and will feed, chamber, extract, and eject the three included dummy cartridges with brass cases, copper bullets, & copper primers. I have sold many of these Baez/Kopp Colt 1911’s, but this is the first one that has had dummy cartridges like this, they are usually just solid brass. The left side of the slide marked “COLT, AUTOMATIC, CALIBRE 45”. The bottom of the magazine marked with an intertwined “HK (logo)-3”. This is the first time I have seen this mark on a Baez/Kopp Colt 1911. The rear of the slide properly serrated. The grip safety and magazine release are checkered. The sterling silver grips are checkered, with a raised uncheckered oval in the middle of each, and each grip is held in place by two sterling silver screws. Includes the original Herschel Kopp hinged top mahogany casing. The interior bottom French fit and lined in a dark blue velour. The interior top lined in a dark blue silk with the gold lettering “HERSCHEL, KOPP” in two lines. The case top with a rectangular brass plaque with scalloped corners & stamped R.M.S., 11-4-74. The case bottom lines with a piece of dark blue felt. No clue who RMS is/was, but this makes this a really early Baez/Kopp miniature, and maybe a missing link in the Baez/Kopp miniature firearms history. The piece shows some minor handling wear, but is still in excellent condition. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
