George Wenzek 1/2 Scale Double Cased Set Of An 1848 Colt First Model Dragoon & An 1849 Colt Pocket Model Revolvers

This is a 1/2 scale double cased set of an 1848 Colt first model Dragoon & an 1849 Colt Pocket Model revolvers made by master miniature maker George Wenzek in 1988.

The Dragoon is 6 13/16″ long overall with a 3 3/4″ part octagon part round rifled barrel of .218 caliber.  Mostly machined steel construction with a blue & case colored finish except for the silver plated triggerguard & backstrap.  Fully functional & capable of firing given the proper percussion caps, powder, & projectiles, though the cylinder tends to slightly over travel the proper alignment with the nipples when the hammer is cocked.  The hammer has both half & full cock & has a checkered spur.  The serial # “4” stamped into the bottom of the frame.  The bottom of the barrel stamped “WENZEK”.   Ivory grip showing a pleasing patina & grain.  Mint new as made except for some expected tarnish to the silver plating.

The Pocket Model is 4 1/2″ long with a 1 31/32″ octagon rifled barrel.  Mostly machined steel construction with a blue & case colored finish except for the silver plated triggerguard & backstrap.  Fully functional & capable of firing given the proper percussion caps, powder, & projectiles.  The hammer has both half & full cock & has a checkered spur.  The serial # “4” stamped into the bottom of the frame.  The bottom of the barrel stamped “WENZEK”.   Ivory grip showing a pleasing patina & grain.  Mint new as made except for some expected tarnish to the silver plating.  This is the first 1849 Colt Pocket Model revolver I have ever seen or heard of!

Walnut hinged top case with a slide latch & finger jointed corners.  The case top with an inlaid brass border.  The case interior bottom is French fit & lined in a dark gold & bright gold felt.  The recesses for the revolvers each have a gold ribbon pull tab to ease removal from the case & there is a gold ribbon attaching the bottom to the top so the lid when opened stays at 90 degrees to the bottom.  There is a small brass plaque below each revolver, the Dragoon plaque reading “1848, 44 Caliber, Dragoon” in three lines.  The Pocket Model plaque reading “1849, 31 Caliber, Pocket” in three lines.  The case interior lid lined in a bright gold felt with a rectangular brass plaque reading “Half Scale Colts, By, GEORGE E. WNEZEK, 1988”.  The case also mint new as made.
