Project Description

This is a full scale cased pair of Barber & Boaler flintlock muff pistols with safeties, screw off barrels, & folding triggers, circa 1800.  Each pistol is 4 5/8″ long overall with a 1 3/16″ round smoothbore barrel.  The right side of each pistol frame marked “BARBER & BOALER” in three lines in an oval.  The left sides marked “NEWARK” in an oval.  The bottom of the frames stamped with a proof mark of a crown over crossed swords.  The barrels with a lug at the rear for using a special barrel wrench to unscrew the barrels.  Wrench not included.  Steel construction, the hammers with both half & full cock.  The top tang mounted sliding safeties only engaged with the hammers at half cock.  The triggers automatically spring down when the hammers are brought to full cock, then must be manually folded back into place after the hammer is lowered or the pistol is fired.  One piece rosewood grips.  Both are mechanically excellent except one barrel is stuck & will not unscrew.  Cased together is a modern walnut hinged top case, no latch.  The bottom interior semi-French fit & lined in a red foam.  Between the pistols there is a engraved black plaque marked “Muff Pistols, C. 1800” in two lines.  Both pistols show little to no original finish & are mostly a smooth gray/brown patina with some light pitting in some areas.  The red foam on the interior case bottom is starting to deteriorate.  Stock # CK-321.  Price:  $2,000.00.
