Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale Colt Model 1855 “Root” revolving rifle made by master miniature maker Emile Ripoli of Washington State about 1985. 25 1/2″ long overall with a 15 3/4″ part octagon part round rifled barrel of .22 caliber. The rifle is fully functional, the cylinder indexes when the hammer is cocked, but the cylinder stop does not seem to work to hold the cylinder in place while the hammer is cocked. The front sight adjustment screw is missing. The rifle is in the white, having never been finished. It needs a little polishing work, and the mechanical issues repaired as stated above. The stock and forearm are very highly figured walnut. German silver forearm nosecap, wedge, and wedge escutcheons. The ramrod is in two pieces and looks to be made of rosewood with brass fittings. One half of the ramrod is stored under the barrel, the other half is contained by a screw in the buttplate. Dovetailed front sight with a yellow brass blade, dovetailed elevation adjustable rear sight, missing the holding screw. The top of the hammer spur and the loading lever latch sides are checkered. The sides of the firing pin part of the hammer are serrated, the hammer having both half & full cock. The cylinder is marked in one of the flutes “PATENTED SEPT. 10TH, 1850”. No other visible markings. On a historical note, this is the rifle that was first issued to Berdan’s Sharpshooter in the U.S. Civil War. This is a really neat piece, one of only four of five finished by Mr. Ripoli, and only needs a minimal amount of work to be spectacular! !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
