Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a full size .45 caliber flintlock target pistol, cased with accessories, made by master miniature and master knife maker Daniel Osterman of Oregon. 14″ long overall with a 9″ octagon rifled barrel of .45 caliber. The barrel with 8 lands & grooves. Browned barrel, case colored lock assembly except for the frizzen spring which is finished in the white. Blued sights, trigger, and screws. Brass triggerguard, ramrod thimbles, and nosecap. Beautiful highly figured one piece walnut stock. The hammer with half and full cock. The lockplate marked D. E. OSTERMAN. The under barrel ramrod with a rope burned spiral stripe. Complete with the wood handled bullet mold, a ramrod, a cleaning rod, and the hand made Osterman quarter sawn oak hinged top case with slide latch. The case interior French fit and lined in a dark red velvet. The top, sides, and bottom of the case are pegged together with what looks to be 1/8″ walnut pegs. The case corners are mortised and mitered. Brass corner protectors, hinges, and latch. I was told that Daniel made this piece as a gift to the man who taught him to engrave. I bought it from that man’s son, so I believe the story to be true. Mint new as made except the case does show a few minor handling marks. This is a truly beautiful piece with typical first quality work as you would expect from Dan, and I’d bet it shoots as well as it looks. If you’ve ever seen one of his miniature flintlock rifles or pistols, you understand! !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
