Project Description

!!!!!SOLD!!!!!  This is a very tiny miniature Bowie knife made from a 1942 90% silver Mercury dime.  19/32″ long overall with a 3/8″ blade.  The rear of the blade edge has what is called the “Spanish Notch”, which I was told was used for cutting wire fences back in the open range days.  The blade & tang are cut out of the silver dime with a micro saw wire.  The blade & tang are then filed into the proper knife shape.  Copper guard and handle rivets.  The handles look to be polished bone.  Complete with the original 1942 Mercury Dime the blade blank was cut from, and nestling into the cutout.  Housed in a clear plastic coin or gem lift top container.   A really cool & well made piece!  I have seen a number of Mr. Shoemaker’s Lincoln copper plated zinc penny or cent knives, but this is the first Mercury dime knife I’ve ever seen.  !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
