Project Description
!!!!!PRICE REDUCED!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale percussion Kentucky rifle made by Ben Kirkland. I have no further information on Mr. Kirkland, other than describing this rifle he made, & I don’t recall ever hearing of him as a miniature maker. If you know or knew Mr. Kirkland, or have any information about this rifle, I’d appreciate hearing from you! 26 3/8″ long overall with a 17 7/16″ octagon rifled blued barrel of .22 caliber. The barrel is bored through to the nipple, & this miniature rifle could be fired with the proper load. Disclaimer, fire at your own risk, this is sold as a collector’s item only! Blued steel lock assembly, drum, nipple, & trigger. Brass furniture. The lockplate, hammer, sideplate, barrel key escutcheons, rear ramroid thimble, triggerguard, patchbox, patchbox door, buttplate tang, and brass inlays are all nicely engraved. Dovetailed blade front sight & dovetailed “U” notch rear sight. One piece nicely figured walnut stock, the figure probably artificially applied by burning a fuel soaked rope wound around the stock. The hammer has both half & full cock, & the nipple shows deformation damage from dry firing. Nice workmanship & engraving. While the bore is rifled & through to the nipple, the ramrod is only 11 1/8″ long. No clue as to why it is so short. The rifle is in excellent “as made” condition, except the bore is rough. It shows rust & pitting, & may have been that way when made from using a salvaged .22 rimfire barrel. Price Reduced: $1,500.00.
