Project Description
This is a 1/3 scale flintlock Kentucky rifle by master miniature maker Art Holly. 19 1/2″ long overall with a 13 1/2″ octagon rifled barrel of .22 caliber. The barrel is browned, and bored through to the touch hole. The lockplate, hammer, pan, & frizzen are steel finished in the white, as are some of the screws. The lock lightly engraved and marked in script capitol letters “AH” in script. The hammer with both half and full cock, with a very crisp action. Nice high quality engraved brass furniture. There is an engraved silver star shaped inlay on the left side of the buttstock cheek piece with what looks to be a mother of pearl oval inset in the middle & another engraved silver inlay just forward of the triggerguard of a woman’s head & shoulders. Engraved manually opened brass patch box, the lid engraved “1778”. The top of the barrel signed “A. Holly” in script. Several nicely engraved brass inlays into the stock on both sides of the forearm just ahead of the lock for the barrel retaining pins. Brass nose cap. Browned steel rear sight is dovetailed in place with a fixed brass front sight. There are nine silver wire bands inlaid into the top of the barrel near the tang, just ahead of the lock, on both sides of the rear sight & on both sides of the front sight. The stock is a beautiful highly figured fiddleback maple with moderate carving of excellent quality, and a raised cheekpiece on the left side. Three brass ramrod thimbles. Hickory ramrod with brass tip. A pretty rifle with great lines by a great highly collected maker. Art Holly miniature rifles are very seldom offered for sale, but I have obtained several from the Ralph Koebbeman Museum Collection. Excellent condition with the brass parts showing a very pleasing aged patina with just one dark place on the right side of the nose cap. Stock # CK-134-E. Price: $2,850.00.
