Project Description

!!!!!SOLD!!!!!  This is a cased set of antique miniature pistols circa 1870.  The set includes the two original screw off barrel drop trigger center hammer percussion square bore pocket watch key pistols.  There is a fitted place in between the two muff pistols for a miniature 2mm revolver with a folding trigger.  Unfortunately, the revolver is missing.  The last photo shown shows this exact set that I bought & sold in 2011, so you can see what the revolver looks like.  What moron would remove the revolver from this original cased set?  If you know where this revolver is, and would consider selling it, assuming you are not the above mentioned moron, I’d sure like to buy it and put the set back together.  This set was part of the famous Funderburg collection.  There is a white paper stick on label on the bottom marked “STOCK NOS., 1153, 4, & 5, FROM FUNDERBURG, #215 COLLECTION”  With three stock numbers noted, at that time the revolver must have still been included.  The pistols are 1 5/8″ long with 15/32″ barrels of about .065 caliber.  The blued barrels are round and fluted at the breech end, then step down in diameter and are round on the muzzle end with a turned groove at the muzzle.  The nickel plated frames, top rear tangs, and triggers are nicely engraved.  The grips are one piece ivory with a lanyard ring at the rear for attaching to a watch chain.  The case hardened hammers have full cock only.  When cocked the triggers drop crisply down, and once the trigger is pulled and the hammer drops, the triggers snap smartly back in place.  The hammers have a really strong spring, and would easily set off the tiny percussion caps used on these pistols.  The hinged top case with push button latch looks to be ebony.  The case exterior measures 3″ X 2 5/16″ X 3/4″.   The top has yellow brass edges, inlaid brass borders, and a snowflake shaped inlaid yellow brass escutcheon in the center.  The interior bottom is lined in a medium blue cloth, the interior top is lined in a medium blue silk.  Both pistols are in excellent condition.  One barrel showing about 65% original fire blue, the other about 95% fire blue.  pistol with the 65% blue barrel has a near perfect grip, the one with the 95% blue barrel has a small crack on the left side where the lanyard screw shows just under the bottom tang, and a small dark stained spot there on the right side.  The case exterior is in excellent condition.  The case interior bottom shows a lot of age and staining.  The interior top shows staining and some missing cloth near the middle.  If the revolver were still present, and in comparable condition to the two muff pistols, this set would be worth about $4,500.00.  If you have one of these revolvers, here’s your chance to put it in a correct period case!  !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
