Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is an antique folding trigger, screw off barrel percussion box lock muff pistol by an unknown maker. Probably made in Belgium in the mid to late 1800’s. The pistol is 1 11/16″ long overall with a 9/16″ fluted steel barrel of about .105 caliber. The muzzle end of the barrel shows what look to be eight rifling grooves, but the barrel is not rifled. The grooves are for inserting a square wrench into the muzzle to help in unscrewing the barrel should it become stuck. The barrel and steel frame are nicely engraved. Checkered hammer spur. The engraved grip looks to be gold, and is quite heavy for it’s size. The mechanism works perfectly, the trigger dropping down into position when the hammer si cocked, and springing back into place one the hammer is tripped. Complete with the original hinged top dark brown leather casing with front pivoting hook latch. The interior bottom French fit and lined in a royal blue velour. The interior lid lined in an off white silk. Accessories include a lift top ivory powder flask, and an original Gevelot yellow brass lift top cap tin. The top and bottom edges of the cap tin are knurled, the top of the tin marked GEVELOT in raided letters. Inside the cap tin are one original percussion cap and one original lead ball. There is a space in the case for another tin, & I suspect one would have had the percussion caps and the other the lead balls. Very good condition, the frame and barrel showing a gray steel patina with some minor pitting, mostly on the bottom of the barrel near the frame. The grip is excellent. The case lid lining shows some age soiling. The outside of the case showing wear to the sharp edges and an area on the bottom where a sticker was removed. These original cased sets seldom come up for sale and are highly sought after! !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
