Project Description

!!!!!SOLD!!!!!  This is an antique miniature Italian horseman’s flintlock pistol by an unknown maker.  Very interesting in that all of the lock work is exposed.  5 1/2″ long overall with a tapered part octagon, part round, threaded screw off barrel of about .135 caliber.  The frame, barrel and lock work parts are steel and finished in the white.  There is an engraved yellow brass decorative piece attached to the left side of the tumbler.  The trigger and grip are partially comprised of yellow brass balls or knobs.    Thanks to Alan Weinstein for the following: This exact miniature is shown in F. Theodore Dexter’s 1947 book “35 Years of Scrap Book of Antique Arms, volume 1, plate 1.  He describes it as: “Italian miniature horseman’s pistol.  While such miniatures as this little gem were mostly used as favors at big banquets, yet invariably they actually function as firearms and are capable of inflicting a very dangerous wound.  The demand for miniatures dates back to about 1890, and such pieces as this rich Italian horseman’s pistol brought $45.00 – 65.00 in 1910.  This one sold for $95.00 in 1936, and 225.00 in 1947.”  Dexter was a powerhouse dealer in the 1930’s & 1940’s.  His three books are a great resource.  From the collection of noted firearms dealer, collector, and author Frank Sellers.  Stock# KS-300.  !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
