Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale miniature brass sextant made by Stanley of London and dated 1894. I don’t know anything about sextants, but I’ll describe it as best I can. The photos should tell the story. The sextant is made entirely of yellow brass except for the inlaid scale, which I think is platinum, the glass lenses, and the mirror. It measures about 4 1/8″ X 4 1/8″ X 2 1/8″. It is marked “1894, STANLEY SEXTANT, LONDON” in three lines”. The lenses are all intact. There are a couple small areas of corrosion, that should clean up with a minimal amount of work. It looks to be complete with no missing parts. The brass has a beautiful nice aged patina. I would call the condition excellent. Complete with the original hinged top walnut casing with brass corner hardware and swinging latch. The top with an inlaid brass escutcheon. The interior top & bottom lined in an obviously aged burgundy felt. The lid is slightly warped, but still closes and latches properly. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
