Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/2 scale World War I Imperial German, or maybe Prussian, spiked helmet or picklehauben by an unknown maker. The bottom measures 5″ front to back, 3 3/4″ side to side, and about 4 5/8″ tall. I am not sure what material the base helmet is made of, but it is showing some stress cracks. The brim, rear brim, an area on each side where the chin strap attaches, and the interior liner are black leather. The spike, front brim trim, the chin strap attaching buttons, the rear helmet trim piece, and the chin strap hardware all look to be nickel plated. There is a rosette decoration on the left side chin strap button. The undersides of the front and rear brims are lines in a light brown leather. There is a winged griffin type decoration with shield and banner on the front of the helmet with the head of an eagle and the rear haunches of a lion. The eagle with a crown on it’s head. There is a separate badge in the center of the griffin’s chest. The ribbon says “MIT GOTT F. TUERST U KIERLAND” (I think, it’s difficult to read). This piece is very well made, and I believe it is period. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
