Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is an antique 1881 Russian or Caucasian Shashka sword with scabbard, bayonet, & sword knot. The bayonet looks to be for an early Mosin Nagant bolt action rifle, but could be for an earlier rifle with the same pattern bayonet. The sword in the scabbard is 16 7/16″ long. The sword itself is 15 3/4″ long overall with a 13″ steel blade finished in the white with a blood groove on each side. The guard, pommel, & scabbard fittings are brass. The sword handle is heavily varnished wood with diagonal grooves on each side. The scabbard is covered in brown leather. The bayonet is blued steel, 8″ long overall with a 6 3/4″ blade. The left side of the blade near the guard is stamped with what I suppose is a Russian Federal eagle. The right side is engraved “1889r”. The right side of the guard near the blade is engraved with some cryptic characters. The sword knot is brown leather with a tassel type end. Excellent 95% overall condition. It seems I have seen one of these in the distant past, but I can’t remember where or when. Sure would like to find the rifle that the bayonet fits! !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
