!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a cased matched pair of H.W. Mortimer, London, flintlock screw off barrel folding trigger muff pistols made in the mid 1800’s. 3 1/2″ long overall. The part of the barrel that unscrews is 3/4″ long and about .231 caliber smoothbore. Excellent mechanical condition. There are some traces of blue on the barrels, but they are mostly a nice smooth patina gray/brown. They are nicely engraved, and have beautiful silver inlaid grips. The inlays are scrolls of silver wire with engraved leaves & flowers. The hammers have both half and full cock. The pistols have safeties which are worked by priming the pan with the hammer at half cock, then closing the pan and sliding the safety forward. This locks the pan so it can not open if the trigger is accidentally pulled or the piece is dropped. The case is old, but I do not think it is original to these pistols. These are really not miniatures, but are very small full size muff or pocket pistols. H.W. Mortimer was one of the premier gun makers in London in the early to mid 1800’s, and this pair is a testament to that fact! !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
