Project Description

!!!!!SOLD!!!!!  This is a 1/2 scale Colt single action army revolver with 7 1/2″ barrel made by Andrew Dyson in England, probably in the late 1960’s or early 1970’s.  He made this revolver before Uberti came out with their semi-mass produced SAA revolvers, and it would have sold for about $6,500.00 back then!  6 3/8″ long overall with a 3 3/4″ round smoothbore barrel of .205 caliber.  The barrel is bored through to the firing pin hole.  This is much larger than a Uberti Colt SAA which would be 6′ long overall with a 3 7/16″ barrel.  100% hand made, all machined, no castings.  Fully functional, the hammer with both half & full cock.  Black powder frame with the later oval ejector rod button, the sighting notch at the rear of the top strap, and a screw retaining the cylinder pin.  Steel construction, the barrel, frame, triggerguard, backstrap, & front sight charcoal blued.  The cylinder, hammer, trigger, ejector rod, & ejector rod housing are gold plated.  Beautifully engraved in scrolls & flower motifs with about 40% coverage.   Beautiful two piece ivory grips with a single blind screw entering from the left side.  The right grip high relief carved with the full length figure of a frontal naked woman.  There are two tiny inlaid steel pins, finished in the white, depicting her nipples.  The right grip is inscribed “A LOVELY WOMAN IS A JOY TO BEHOLD”.  There is an engraved flower petal overlay escutcheon under the right grip screw head.  Complete with the original Dyson walnut puzzle box glass topped case.  The interior bottom lined in a red felt.  There is an empty rectangular compartment inside the case with a walnut & ivory lid & brass knob.  Accessories include a brass oiler and a blued steel “L” shaped screwdriver/pin punch.  Beautiful condition except for some thinning of the gold plating in places.  The bottom of the case with a white rectangular stickler stating in ink “1/2 SCALE COLT, 1873 SAA REVOLVER, 7 1/2″ BARREL ANDREW DYSON NEW STOCK NO. 1069”.  Possibly a one-of-a-kind piece by Mr. Dyson as I have never seen one in my 32 years in the business.  Ex Kennith Whichard & Rodney Barron collections.  !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
