Project Description
This is a 1/5 scale Colt 1911 A1 silver framed parts set made of sterling by master jeweler Alex Baez of California & Herschel Kopp of Ohio. The parts are all arranged on an exploded view of a Colt 1911 A1 with the parts numbered & identified. Assembled, the pistol would be 1 3/4″ long overall with a 3/4″ barrel of about .068 caliber. All the parts are sterling silver that has been oxidized to look like blued steel, except for the steel springs which are fire blued & the yellow brass grip screws. The grips are also sterling silver, high relief cast with scrolls & an upside down horse shoe on each side. The interior of the right horse shoe with a horse head, the left horse shoe interior with a saddle. This piece would be fully functional if assembled. The left side of the slide hand engraved with “COLT, AUTOMATIC, CALIBER .45”, followed by the rampant Colt rearing horse logo. The frame looks to be black painted wood with some gold trim near the glass. I have handled a great number of Alex’s .45 autos over the years, both gold and silver, but I have only ever seen two of these framed parts sets, & this is one of the two. Most likely Alex made the actual pistol parts, then Herschel did the engraving on the slide & the framing of the parts. A great early Alex Baez & Herschel Kopp piece, and a missing link in the Baez/Kopp miniature firearms history. Stock # RC-6. Price: $2,000.00.
